Suggested Breakdown of Coach and Assistant/Teen-Assistant Responsibilities



The goals of the Junior Greyhound Athletic Association Cheerleading program.

The instruction of cheerleading basics. These basics include:

  • Working within a group or team in a safe and fun environment
  • Correct head, hand, arm, leg and torso positioning
  • Jumps and kicks
  • Individual and group precision
  • Good voice projection
  • Teach all safety precautions associated with basic stunt instruction

Coach Responsibilities:

  • Direct practice – instructional, fun, varied, non-critical, take attendance
  • Choose cheers/dances/sidelines
  • Introduce new cheers/sidelines
  • Determine formations at games for sidelines, hello, half-time
  • Attend games – call out sidelines to appointed captains to correlate with action of game.
  • Maintain list of girls names, phone #s, e-mail addresses
  • Communicate with parents
  • Choose captains – permanent or on rotating basis
  • Hand out/collect uniforms

Assistant/Teen-Assistant Responsibilities:

  • Teach/demonstrate hello, half-time, sidelines
  • Teach/demonstrate correct arms, hands, jumps, kicks and voice (basic skills)
  • Teach new sidelines/cheers
  • Aid coaches with formations
  • Attend games, if available – aid in choosing sidelines
